Camberwell beauty - Nymphalis antiopa

Family: Nymphalidae.

Flight Time: March/June, June/July (Hibernates).

Size: 60-65mm

Altitude: 0-2000m

A really spectacular species. It is a powerful migrant reaching areas to the north and west of the range shown on the map. Quite often to be found taking sap from trees, this particular butterfly spent most of its time in a neighbouring tree, only occasionally visiting a thistle for sustenance. It wasn't keen to show its topside for the photos unfortunately.
